Chinese/Asian clubs throwing massive money around. Good or bad?
Some of the transfers and reported wages are staggering.

Ramieres, Texieira, reported offers for Oscar and some others. Jelavic proposed wages.

There's clearly some serious backing for the Chinese domestic game, but will it represent a real shift of power if they start attracting droves of top internationals, or is it just a fad/unsustainable?

Could we all be watching the world's best players at 5 in the morning in the Chinese league in 5 years time, or will it all have spectacularly collapsed in on itself? I imagine most of the money involved is as shady as fuck, and the level of corruption is going to make FIFA look like a WI meeting.

Typical nouveau riche johny come lately behaviour.
They're the same when it comes to fine, wine, whisky, luxury cars etc. Think they can buy hundreds of years of culture.

Drogba didn't hang about in that league, tells you everything. In a word, money, a huge payday then off to the MLS to top up the pension before taking up a punditry job.

I was in Saigon the other day and didn't notice any football stuff around at all. Whereas in Bangkok it's everywhere.
BTW I can't wait to visit Saigon again.

I'm in Vietnam at the moment. It's surprising how popular the PL is here. Asians are trying hard to become westernised. They are impressed by brands and anything that they can acquire to make themselves like western culture.

England has several things they seem to like. Like language, some expensive cars but more importantly, brand names and EPL....

Wake up guys. In time Asia will take over everything. They are on a mission while Europe fiddles.....

I can understand the 35yo's who go off to LA or Sydney for a wind down but the money would have to be ludicrous to consider China.

didn't Drogba leave because the club didn't/couldn't pay his wages?

I haven't heard too many tales of players who have enjoyed themselves playing in china. population density and air quality alone would be enough to put me off it.

I see it as a good thing for the Premiership as it gives them an outlet to offload those who are past it and weed out the truly mercenary and pass them on.
Certainly wouldn't blame Jelavic being tempted by a silly final contract at his age to play a bit of park football and they aren't going to get any serious ambitious top class players. Unless their only motive is money. In that case good riddance.
The only surprise is that Texiera that Liverpool chased all through the transfer window and were told he had some crazy buy out price. In a way they have had a lucky escape as he has shown where his motivations lie with this move. Maybe he found Chinese easier to understand than Scouse.

I can understand players at the end of their careers going to the East for big bucks and who can blame them. But players in their prime who put wedge above trophies are nothing more than footballing prostitiutes (PROSTITUTES)

Brooking would never had done this. Too much class.

Chinese football = Russian cricket.

They can chuck all the money in their world. And players will take it. But it's not going to succeed, globally. IMO.

You can suggest a country is prone to corruption without it being racist Surface.

Here's an example from that we'll know racist rag The Guardian.

Aren't they just doing what Russian clubs have been doing for the past few years? Paying over the odds for good but not world class players?

Don't have an issue with it, though it drives the price up for any player they are chasing as they basically have limitless funds

Re: Chinese/Asian clubs throwing massive money around. Good or bad?
There is a massively different culture and language difficulty in China and the Middle East and top players and their families would find it difficult to settle and live there.
Sure the attraction of big money will take the journey men and mid tier player who see their future finances sorted after one or two seasons but I cannot see their leagues ever displacing the Premier League.

Re: Chinese/Asian clubs throwing massive money around. Good or bad?
Wenger has already said that this means money from the new TV deal will have to go on players to be able to compete and that ticket prices won't drop.
